Promethean is excited to partner with the Seattle Sounders FC, providing interactive technology for their new, state-of-the-art training facility, the Providence Swedish Performance Center and Clubhouse.
The Sounders FC are one of the most successful clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS). Originally founded in 1974, the Sounders FC became an MLS expansion team in 2007 and played their first MLS match in 2009. In that debut season, they won their first of four U.S. Open Cup titles. This dynamo team has also won two MLS cups and in 2022, won the CONCACAF Champions League title and qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup. With arguably one of the best fanbases in the MLS, Sounders FC is a beloved franchise, watched by over 32,000 live attendees per game.
Off the pitch, Sounders FC are passionate community leaders dedicated to supporting local youth organizations and celebrating a love of the game. The club’s charitable branch, The RAVE Foundation, works to make soccer accessible to all, and through the game, build confidence and amplify joy and wellbeing in youth players, and bring the soccer community together.
Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse
In time to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Sounders FC opened the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse, a new, state-of-the-art training facility in Renton, Washington. The facility serves as training grounds for the team with four full-size pitches, an education center for their Academy dedicated to growing youth talent, and a local hub for schools and community organizations to play and compete.
The facility also serves as the headquarters for Sounders FC staff with 50,000 square feet of office space. This marks the first time in the organization’s history where all staff and team operations are under one roof. The center, with its open floor plans, conference rooms, training facilities, medical and wellbeing spaces, classrooms, and public areas, fosters a spirit of community and collaboration across work and athletic functions.
Boosting interactivity of soccer with tech
As the official education technology partner, Promethean installed ActivPanel displays, operating devices, and accessories throughout the expansive facility. Different models, including ActivPanel 9 Premium, ActivPanel 9 Pro, and ActivPanel LX, were set up with purpose in each space—from huddle rooms, boardrooms, and coaching spaces to the Academy Classroom and common areas. This strategic mix of panels provides bespoke interactive functionality that meets the unique uses and needs of every space and for all players, students, and staff.
The robust, versatile functionality of this ActivPanel suite is helping staff work together more seamlessly and effectively. Staff use the panels to collaborate, brainstorming together with real-time whiteboard applications, reviewing team data and action plans, and delivering presentations, no matter if all participants are in the building or connecting remotely from the road. Coaching staff can utilize a suite of interactive tools and applications to annotate over live game footage and share training plans. With full touch capabilities, they have a new way to deliver crucial information and game strategy to players before the next match. And, in the facility’s Academy classroom, instructors use the interactive panels to spark curiosity and support learning in students participating in youth programs.
A winning partnership
The partnership between Promethean and the Sounders FC is one of the first for the club that focuses on utilizing interactive technology in service of education and collaboration across business operations, coaching, and the Academy program.
