Sustainability in action
We have begun the process of decarbonising our business and are excited about our journey toward net zero. We’ll be announcing more details about our net zero carbon goals in the coming months.
In the meantime, take a look at the initiatives we’ve already implemented to protect our environment.
Quality and Environmental Management System
Created by Promethean, Limited, our Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS) aligns to the internationally recognised ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards. This gives us a framework for managing and minimising environmental impacts while always providing high-quality products and services to our customers.
Sustainable packaging
All the materials used in our packaging are recyclable. We’ve also reduced the size of our packaging, which means we can ship a larger volume of products at one time. Shipping more products in fewer containers decreases our fuel consumption and has resulted in a 30% increase in transportation efficiency.
Saving energy through software
Promethean’s device management software helps IT managers reduce power consumption by giving them the ability to power down an individual panel or an entire fleet of panels at the end of the day from a central location. In addition, the ActivPanel 9 Premium has sensors that will automatically power the panel down when no one is present.
WEEE recycling
We believe the impact a product has on the environment must be considered for every stage of its lifecycle, including its end of life. Promethean adheres to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) and has implemented recycling programs in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the United States. In the United States, the WEEE program is available in select states. In other states, we have take-back programs. To find out more about how to recycle Promethean products, click here.
Safe disposal
All of our electronic products are marked with the WEEE symbol—a crossed-out wheeled garbage bin—that indicates the product cannot be disposed of through general or household waste streams but must be separated and sent to approved treatment facilities for safe recycling or disposal.
ENERGY STAR certification
With its globally recognized blue label, the ENERGY STAR program makes it easy for consumers to choose products designed for energy efficiency and manufactured with energy-efficient practices. An independent ENERGY STAR testing lab has certified certain ActivPanel products* as energy efficient, meaning these products not only use less power, but cost less to run, which is good for the planet and good for our customers’ operational bottom line.
Sourcing minerals responsibly
We are committed to environmental responsibility in our own operations and those of our global supply chain. We appraise suppliers on their commitment to becoming conflict-free and sourcing only from conflict-free smelters. Each supplier to Promethean is expected to provide a completed Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) declaration, which includes documenting countries of origin for their tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold.
