September 30, 2015
Promethean, a global education technology solutions company, today announces its acquisition of interactive touch and pen technology from Light Blue Optics Limited, a Cambridge-based developer of advanced user-interface technology. The acquisition includes the intellectual property rights for the technology and a key member of LBO’s engineering team. The new interactive technology will further enhance students and teachers’ experience with their Promethean classroom display for a seamless, engaging learning environment.
“After careful consideration of all the other solutions in the market, we found the technology developed by Light Blue Optics provides clearly superior performance,” said Promethean Chief Technology Officer Ram Venkataraman. “Our upcoming hardware products that incorporate LBO’s technology, combined with our award-winning ClassFlow™ interactive lesson delivery platform, form a very powerful solution that benefits teaching and learning in the classroom. We look forward to enhancing our already well-received solutions with LBO’s technology.”
Interactive classroom interfaces that simultaneously recognize multiple user inputs can unlock new opportunities for collaborative learning. Excellent collaboration and interpersonal communication skills continue to rise to the top of the list as qualities employers identify as core skills to make students career-ready. A recently published study from the National Associations of Colleges and Employers, NACE, about employability characteristics stated: “Employers considering new college graduates for job openings are looking for leaders who can work as part of a team and communicate effectively.”
Nic Lawrence, co-founder of Light Blue Optics said, “We have had an excellent relationship with Promethean as a major technology development partner. As the exciting new products that we worked with Promethean to develop come to market, we are delighted that Promethean has chosen to acquire the technology.”
