Promethean Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE)

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) became law in the UK in 2007. Its primary purpose is to minimise the impact of waste electrical and electronic equipment on the environment by recycling rather than disposing in landfill.

Promethean fully endorses the environmental objectives of the WEEE Directive and all Promethean electronic products are marked with the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol to alert customers to the fact that these products must not be disposed of with general/household waste streams but separated from other waste streams and sent to approved treatment facilities for safe recycling or disposal.

As a producer of non-household electrical and electronic equipment (EEE)and to fulfil our WEEE obligations, Promethean has registered with WEEECare, a producer compliance scheme.

  • The WEEE (was originally placed on the UK market as EEE before 13 August 2005, irrelevant of the original manufacturer) and has been replaced on a like-for-like basis with brand new EEE supplied by us. Anything placed on the market before 13 August 2005 and not being replaced with anything is the end user’s responsibility for disposal; or
  • If the WEEE was originally placed on the UK market as EEE by us after 13 August 2005.
  • Please contact Promethean if you have a request for waste equipment to be recycled or have any further enquiries.

INFORMATION FOR CUSTOMERS – EU

Under the WEEE Directive each European Union (EU) member state is obliged to pass the WEEE directive into their national law. Promethean products are sold in many EU member states through distributors who are considered the “importer” of the supplied product within the scope of the WEEE Directive and therefore the “producer”. The distributors have the legal responsibility to register in their own member state to facilitate compliance with the WEEE regulations.

Please see WEEE information on Promethean World language sites below or if you are looking to locate a distributor/reseller in your country please email Promethean for assistance.
