Topic: Think like a Designer: The Teacher-Creator of Digital Resources
Synopsis: Our world is becoming more and more visual. We are surrounded by screens and everything that we, teachers, create by various means of visualization, not only affects the perception of information, its memorization, motivates and stimulates action, but also contributes to the formation of visual literacy.
The ability to communicate using visual images, and skills in the use of visual information are becoming increasingly necessary in our rapidly changing digital world. Today, almost every teacher is the creator of digital educational resources, for which a variety of tools can be used, starting with Powerpoint, various software solutions for visualization, educational videos, interactive tasks. These tools have become available for everyone. An awareness of design principles and some practical tips will be helpful for anyone wishing to be a digital creator and educator.

Synopsis: Student engagement is a commonly discussed concept that all educators agree is vital. Just as there are multiple ways to engage students, there are also many ways to define and measure engagement. In this session we will:
- Discuss the differing definitions of student engagement to establish what really matters
- Look at the benefits of student engagement and how this can help pupils beyond the classroom and in their futures
- Showcase some ideas to implement and measure engagement using interactive flat panels and associated software

Among the key factors identified as essential are the need to focus on support, training and the well-being and mental health of both teachers and students. This requires a wide range of competencies across a spectrum that includes effective design, resource curation, communication, empathy etc.
This discussion is intended to explore the various options we can use to help teachers, and their students work effectively in this new and rapidly changing situation.

Topic: Kids and Screens: Rethinking Digital Childhood
Synopsis: The digital future has arrived, technology is connecting and changing everything – how we live, how we communicate, how we learn, and the changes are happening at high speed.
This shift is not only technological, it is also social and we are still in search of an answer to the question – how can we, parents and educators, teach children to use the tools of the digital age purposefully, responsibly and in an ethical manner?
Today, having returned from virtual classrooms to real ones, from on-screen to live communication, we can hear a wide range of opinions from teachers and parents: from anti-screen rhetoric to the euphoria of tech enthusiasts. Screens and devices are not toxic per se. The screen communication hub in the family and it’s therefore vitally important to create opportunities for a joint digital experience between the child and the parent.
This presentation is a review of research on the topic and recommendations from experts on finding a balance in the interaction of children and screens for parents and educators.
It is time to rethink the digital childhood.

Synopsis: The events of the last few years are forcing us to rethink our priorities and refocus our attention on the role of education technology in a rapidly changing world. The recent global crises highlighted a range of issues to do with access and equity as children and teachers all over the world were forced to work online.
It also underscored a fundamental truth about teaching and learning – that ultimately it is a social and communal activity best experienced together in person. In other words what lies at education’s core is human interaction.
