Featured Session: Sketchnoting for Visual Learners (and We Are ALL Visual Learners)
With Julie Porter
“Sketchnoting,” or “visual notetaking,” is increasingly being recognized as a legitimate form of notetaking that is surprisingly effective at improving retention of information. Teachers at all grade levels are using sketchnoting with students to encourage synthesizing information rather than trying to merely take dictation during a lesson. Business has seen a growth in the use of “visual facilitators,” professional sketchnoters who make visual notes during a meeting or presentation to help participants see what has been discussed and to make connections between chunks of information. In this session, we will explore the brain science behind sketchnoting’s effectiveness, discuss how to get started even if you think you cannot draw, and share resources for further exploration.

Access to the whiteboard feature allows me to jump from the lesson itself to going more in-depth with questions my students ask. Students also enjoy the opportunity to use the stylist and the annotate feature to share their ideas. It is all around a marvelous teaching tool.
