Now utilises the latest Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) and InstallShield Engines. This release does not update any of the individual ACTIVboard Drivers or files, only the installation routine and some registry entries have changed. The main changes are : There has been added a check at install time to ensure the currently logged on user has Administrator Privileges which are necessary to install the Drivers correctly. The installation will abort if they do not have these access rights. There has been a change to the registry entries made by the driver to allow any user to Calibrate and Save settings for the ACTIVboard. Previously only a user with Administrator privileges could save calibration settings for the ACTIVboard. There has been a change to the Default Driver installation location. This used to be #:\ACTIV but has now changed to #:\Program Files\ACTIV Software\ACTIVdrivers --------------------------------- This is the first general release of the Combined Serial and USB ACTIVdrivers. Simply installing the ACTIVdriver will not correct this, you must perform a ‘one time’ manual alteration within Device Manager in order to ‘point’ Windows to the correct driver. This information is supplied on the CD in the PDF file ‘Resolving USB ACTIVboard driver problems’. NB. This problem does not occur IF the ACTIVdriver is installed PRIOR to connecting the USB ACTIVboard. USB ACTIVboard (Windows XP) XP incorrectly detects the ACTIVboard as a HID Device regardless of whether the ACTIVdriver is installed. The system then requires a ‘one time’ manual alteration within Device Manager in order to ‘point’ Windows to the correct driver. This information is supplied on the CD in the PDF file ‘Resolving USB ACTIVboard driver problems’. USB ACTIVboard (Windows 98 Gold release only) ACTIVdriver messaging is not supported under Windows 98 Gold release (Win98 original) which means ACTIVote and ACTIVslate mode boxes do not function. This is a known OS limitation and therefore we do not support the use of either ACTIVote or ACTIVslate under this configuration. This is not a problem under Windows 98 SE (the most common version on the market). USB ACTIVboard (Windows 98, all versions) The USB ACTIVboard does not support Power management under Windows 98. If the computer enters and returns from a power down state (Standby), the ACTIVdriver looses connection with the USB ACTIVboard, and therefore there is no interaction. This situation can be recovered by unplugging and re-plugging the board OR as we advise, disable power management altogether. This is a known OS limitation and therefore we do not support the use of Power Management under this configuration. Serial ACTIVboard (Windows 98, all versions) The new ACTIVboard serial driver conflicts with the original Microsoft Windows 98 serial mouse driver installed with this OS. On installing the ACTIVdriver, an attached serial mouse using the standard Microsoft driver stops working. This is a known OS limitation and can be resolved by switching to a mouse that uses its own serial driver e.g. Logitech or other 3rd party. N.B. Un-installing the ACTIVdriver causes the serial mouse to start working again. Serial ACTIVboard (Windows 98, Me) On some occasions, the ACTIVboard can stop working if the pen is left on the board whilst ACTIVcontrol.exe is detecting the product at PC boot time.
