Activprimary in action at Ballywalter Primary School
Following the highly successful release of Activprimary Version 3 for use on any type of interactive whiteboard in January this year, we tracked down a teacher in Ireland and asked her to tell us why she loved Activprimary so much.
Caryn Brown teaches P3 (six and seven year old pupils) at Ballywalter Primary School in County Down, Northern Ireland. As part of an interactive whiteboard pilot project, an RM board was installed in her classroom along with RM’s Easiteach software. Caryn immediately recognised the benefits of using an interactive whiteboard but her teaching really came alive when she purchased Promethean’s Activprimary software.
"The resources available with Activprimary and the functionality of the software, including the ability to incorporate flash, web and video files, has revitalised my flipcharts," commented Caryn. "Activprimary is also very easy to use and self explanatory."
Caryn is also an avid member of Promethean Planet and admits to visiting two areas of the site every day – the forum and the resources section, where she downloads free flipcharts and also uploads flipcharts she has created herself.
The pupils in Caryn’s class are still as engaged by the whiteboard now as they were when it first arrived in September, and that’s mainly thanks to the captivating lessons Caryn creates using Activprimary. Children can collaborate together at the board or work individually to complete tasks, that can then be summarised using Promethean’s learner response system, Activote.
As a result of using the software, Caryn persuaded her Principal to purchase an Activboard, which is now being used by another teacher in the school, much to Caryn’s disappointment! The school aims to install an Activboard in every class in the school, but for now, Caryn’s class will continue to be inspired by Activprimary.
