The Raising Achievement Series with its Blockbusters, Dominoes and Question of.. activities is one example of how the Promethean/Robert Powell Publications collaboration has sought to develop resources that integrate fully with learning, teaching and assessment approaches. The interactive games, so stimulating on the Activboard, are accompanied by sets of key words, starter activities, writing tasks and tests, demonstrating how the use of interactive whiteboard technology can enrich but never replace a repertoire or classroom approaches.
This focus on high quality learning, teaching and assessment practices is the theme of Robert Powell’s recent book on personalisation. Personalised Learning in the Classroom: the Handbook concerns both policy and practice. It sets out key principles for personalisation in teaching, learning and assessment and then provides a wide range of practical strategies for meeting them. Interactive whiteboard technology and the use of student response systems are some of the strategies examined, but the power of the book is its demonstration of how such technology is at its most useful when used alongside inspirational learning and teaching approaches. As he so aptly says in the introduction, “..hearts and minds are won in the classroom”.
